AMD are currently well outperformed by Intel in the gaming area, but if it is what you want. I also advise against dannywaugh1's recommendation as the graphics card is junk to be frank. This build is slightly over the £500 mark but anywho:

I can also create an Intel spec if you'd like and it would probably come closer to £500 as well as giving slightly better gaming performance.

Edit: Here is a CPU comparison between the Intel Core i3 2100 and the AMD Phenom II X4 965

Well I wanted to go amd for budget :/ so I could always look at the i5 if i can get it in the same price range. Going to have a good look myself now. not going to put order in till friday so have rest of the week

As shown in the link the Dual core Intel alternative performs equally if not better than the quad core AMD.
You will struggle to get an i5 for less than £160 unless Ivybridge causes the prices to drop.

Yeah, the i5 is supposedly the best "bang for buck" CPU available, especially with it's overclocking capabilities.

Edit: I supposed that's one way to ruin your bank balance!

Why not just upgrade your current PC?
Are you struggling with your Editing software, do you need a better cpu?

I want a smaller pc tbh. Use it more now for doing my photos. My mate said he would buy it from me for 650 so I can build another to suit my needs. The case is just to big. Am at uni now so the extra cash will also be handy. :/ Its a shame as its done me well. Plus its a new project. Never a bad thing. Think I wil go for an i5 build over the AMD. will be anout 540ish but be a good rig

Hint: No motherboard

Anyway, Small Pc. If you want the same features it gets more expensive. If you want to OC the nuts off the i5 you'd need something like this:

The case isn't the best but a good, cheap matx case.

I had the same thoughts OP; I assumed a AMD would be cheaper, but still get the job done.

I was also convinced to go for a 2500k, and i'm still highly impressed... Got it clocked to 4.7Ghz and it chews up anything I throw at it :)

Got the 6850 aswell, but this was then the 7xxx weren't released etc.

EDIT:
If you're getting a 2500k get a z68 board for OC'ing.

Yeah thats a good choice, the first one. i have tb hard drive and i can use any stock cpu fan for the mo as I would probs wanna try water cooling out after fewmore paychecks. Good set up, both of them tbh. was a toss up 6850 v 7770. still not sure

Edit: Would want to oc I think. I ocd my 920 but put it back to stock after few weeks. With that in mind its not a deal breaker
