I've been wanting to try this recipe since somebody linked to it in a thread in here a few months ago.

I popped into one of our excellent local butchers (we're spolit for choice for butchers and farm shops round home IMHO) and picked up a half shoulder of lamb (blade side). It's in the oven at moment - going into the kitchen is torture as it smells lovely.

It's hardly salad weather (what the recipe suggests as the side), so I'm going to do some roasted veg to go with it. Parnsips and carrots from the market yesterday and anything else I can find in the veg basket (I think there are some shallots in there to use up).

Roll on 8 o'clock! :D

Well the veggies are in - lamb looks (and smells) awesome, maybe a bit more liquid to get rid off in the potatoes.

Result : utterly superb

Found an lonely looking sweet potatoe in the veggie box, so bunged that in with the veggies. The potatoes were amazing, the garlic (home grown) just fell apart. Some lovely crisp bits of lamb on the outside, inside was tender to perfection.

Plenty of lamb left, so we'll be having lamb curry later in the week :D

Highly recommended.

i also done this today, it was amazing!
I too had loads of the stock left over, and i also used it to make gravy.
The meat was soo soft, we barely had to chew it.

I didn't cover mine with foil, was i supposed to? as the recipe didn't say, but it still was amazing.
The top layer of potatoes were a bit hard/crunchy, so i just removed them, the rest were really nice.
Oh and i didn't use as much rosemary as pics above, i just used 1 sprig, with the leaves chopped.

One thing though, the PRICE of lamb:eek:
I got it for £8.80 a kilo, the shoulder i used was 1.9kg, so it cost £17, and shoulder is supposed to be a cheap cut.

I thought the top layer of potatoes that had gone crisp were one of the best bits. I didn't use any foil either.

I paid something like £10 for the half shoulder of lamb - was £6 or £7 per kg.

The leftovers made a stunning lamb curry :D
