is there a massive difference (excluding price) between the Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3

In image quality terms no so just buy the Mk1 if you can stretch to it. If thats too expensive the next best thing is the Fuji XF1 @ £129 and for the money no other compact gets close.

I think the lens changes at some point and the mk3 has an EVF - but is a lot more expensive.
