I have:

C2D 6400 @ 3ghz
8800GTS @ 600/900
2gb Mem
500g Raid 0
64bit Vista

Everything else runs ok, defrag'd, updated drivers.

Yet on everything maxed or on medium settings i get heavy lag.

Anyone else getting this or have any suggestions?

Is it during intense fight? If so that is normal considering it has to control hundreds of bots at the same time.

It's not particularly graphics intensive I don't think certainly not on a 8800GTS so it's down to the CPU. A quad core will help.

So it's not just my machine...yikes. Pretty sure Supreme Commander didn't have the amount of slow down compared to Forged Alliance.

That's not true, the game is a huge GPU hog, my fps are pretty much even during fights and during the start of the game, always maxing around 25-30, on 1280x1024 & low settings.

On 2560x1024 it gives me 10-15 ish fps even late in the game.

I agree its a major cpu hog too, but when you have below 2k units fighting at once, a 3 ghz c2d should have no problem at all handling it, hell I even played 6 player battles with 1k unit limit on my old Pentium D @ 4.1 ghz fine.

Having over 200 lvl 1 mass fabricators and shieds etc in my view kills my fps much more then when there's a battle somewhere, my fps sometimes drop to 10 when I zoom in on my base while when i go away from my base again into an open area the fps are back at 25-30.

Is this online? because (i assume you know this already) the game syncs your framerate with the other players, so, if they're running the game on a p90, it'll run just as slowly on your system.

What have you got running in the background?

Sounds obvious, but is anything eating your processes whilst playing (I mean apart from Vista ;) )

Also a rather clever fellah made an unofficial app called 'core maximiser' (You want the 1.03 version!)

Check the gpg.net forum for details. The app basically balances out over your CPU's

I would suggest running this as it certainly increased my performance.

OH yeah that I forgot to say, supcom is probably the worst game to play in vista in my experience, much more perf loss than any other game, in vista the fps dropped 20% approx for me compared to xp.

I've found FA to be a huge resource drain also, compared to sup-com. I think it's mainly GPU rather than CPU limitation (I'm running a GTX with a 3.4Ghz c2d at 1600*1200, no AA, windows XP).

Turning shadow detail down to medium helped, but when I zoom in close to some battles (particularly when I have 100+ heavy gunships firing :p ) my FPS can still drop to single figures.

when you download the core maximiser do you have to do anything, unzip it to the sup come folder or anything?

for some reason i dont find it very well explained.

Sorry about the late reply.

Erm GTS version i don't know, but its a 640mb version.

The slow down can occur from either loading up the tutorial to the first cut scene on the first mission, to having 100s of units moving etc, so its not just one place.

I don't use an anti-virus or software firewall, i don't have spyware scanners or any defragmentation tools (i don't have a virus or spyware slowing me down, i don't open files called "zomg naked pics of my sister.exe")

I've tried the core maximizer and it hasn't changed anything.

I haven't even attempted this game online yet, so its not from that either.

Its driving me crazy as supcom vanilla is perfectly fine.
