my mate is building up a pc now, and he just wanted me to ask you guys if this will go toghether ok, I think it will (its for a cheap, but good, gaming etc pc...~he will want to upgrade to quad later, so this is just kinda a stop gap~)

Gigabyte GA 945P-S3, i945P, S775

- £65.44 inc VAT

e6300 oem

- £115 inc VAT

2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15

- £140.45 inc VAT

I just really wanted to check, so i can tell him to order it or not.

thanks guys..

tbh if he is going to go quad core, he may as well get a ds3 as that board is compatible with the kentsfield (quad core) (I've got one and so have many others on this forum) and is a good clocker, so in terms of it being a stopgap, it would be wise to get a good board now perhaps? Just an opinion :)

think the appeal of the s3 is the price..once the quad cores are in his price range then i think he'd be looking for a new CPU&mobo.

Much like everyone else, hes skint and just wants to get up and running quickly (and cheaply)

Thanks for the feedback tho...am glad it will all fit. ill let him know.

Dont forget the processor he has chosen is OEM, so he will need to get a CPU fan as well, as it won't come with one I'd say freezer 7 pro, or schtye ninja :)

Yeah that all looks goods to me, only thing I would say is change the DVD-writer for a pioneer, and perhaps change the HDD. I would say get a 7200.10 Seagate, but the recent batch have been noisy (I know because I have one :() So maybe get a Samsung Spinpoint as I have read that they are also quiet and fast.

thanks man....i think the dvd and HDD are just random buys! lol

He has a plan like me to use a seperate HDD to store all the music files etc, and just leave the first HDD to run games/OS.
