Supercharged jag?

My mate crashed his jag like that on monday morning at work!! Was so funny he has completely totalled it! Cornering is not their thing but its a nice car other than that :)

Will eat your cash though :(

You realise how much these cost to run, right?

Infact on the first page of Motors is a thread about somebodies similar Supercharged Jag is just about to cost £1600 to repair.

It seems pretty much any car that's not just a euro-econobox can potentially cost loads to run. Apart from maybe a Toyota (which isn't strictly a euro-econobox, but..)

Cars I've been looking around

Audi A6 - estate preferably
saab 9-5 - would need to be aero hot 2.3T otherwise whats the point
bmw 5 / 7 - possibly
3 series 330d touring only.
jags - always wanted a powerful jag, S-type, but not the 'mondeo' jag (x-type?)
post 2000 range rovers
maybe a V8 disco

wouldn't really take a ford -
nothing french except a c6 but they are still 15K +
nothing vauxhall

Given that if you had a 3 Series you'd only have a 330d then I dont think a supercharged Jag is the car for you.

Post 2000 Range Rovers for under £5k? Why only post 2000, are you talking about the 2002- model? For £5k!?

these things will cost silly amounts to run.

if my wallet was bulging with notes waiting to be spent on running a luxury saloon, i'd get an E38 740i

why? I' m not really keen on the 3 series generally, but for a small car the 330d engine is supposed to be really good match for the car.

Post 2000 supposedly have a lot less 'issues' with electrics and things. The post 2002 models are still between 5-10 for early ones. Mid-late P38 can be found for 5K that I can see.

The 330i is easier to come by for £5k and is a less mechanically complex and faster car. It seems odd you'd exclude it yet you'd consider, say, an E38 which doesn't have a diesel option.

£5k or under 330ds are scabby nails.

What would you be looking at for something *like the above list* but that wouldn't cost silly notes to run?

Could also be looking at Volvos - S60 / S80 ??

if you really can afford the associated running costs, get a 740i :D
i know it's sold, but this would be the sort of thing to go for
http://pistonheads.com/sales/1260108.htm

however, if you want relatively normal running costs, a volvo or saab could be the answer.
9-5 Aeros are peanuts and you get massive comfort, spec and bang for your buck

as for volvos, not sure why you'd go for the S60 as you seem to want estates..
V70 T5s are very quick and comfortable too
S80s are for old men, the 2.9s are quick and comfy, but dull

audi A6s aren't really anything special. BMW E39s do everything better

Tbh I think if it was a BMW it would probably have to be a 5. The 3 remind me too much of 'upmarket/branded' mondeos. I'm really looking for a larger more wafty car. The E38 7' are interesting but I get the feeling that for the same money a better specced and likely newer 5 would would be possible.

Obviously I'm a huge 5 fan but the E38 will be better specified - it was the top of the range BMW and very few left the factory without heaps of options.

This thread is rather random. Totally lost as to what to say really, is there really an E46 in the same list as an XJR and a P38a?

How about a ford transit?

Hey i had an S80 2.9

Was very comfy noticably better than the S60, the 4 speed box is a lot smoother than the 5 speed on the 2.4.

S80s could be good for the OP then. they are rather big; he could pretend he's in an XJ, but better built and more reliable ;)
