Thought I may as well share my S2000 build project with you all. You may have seen a few pics on the post your motors thread.
I sold the M3 late last year, as good as it was I just wasn’t having that much fun with it.. Plus summer was coming around and I was kind of missing the S2000 I had back in the UK. I thought that if I got another S2 it would have to be quicker as that’s the only problem I previously had with it. I chose the SC route as opposed to turbo as it was easier to do and as there were loads of used kits available on S2ki which would keep the costs down.
Anyway straight into it, I managed to find a kit fairly quickly and got it for a decent price. There were a few parts missing that I bought separately. When it arrived the box was damaged and some of the nuts and bolts had fallen out.. I decided to take the risk and not go through the insurance route as the turnaround was 4 weeks on claims and I wanted this thing done. I managed to locally source the missing nuts/bolts and hose fittings.
The kit was missing the ESM (MAP voltage clamp) and (RRFPR) rising rate fuel pressure reg, I bought those parts separately from the US. The standard Comptech kit uses the stock ECU, fuel is controlled a Walbro 255 and by tweaking the RRFPR with a wideband reading and the ESM is used to hide the positive pressure from the MAP to the ECU. It’s supposed to make 270-300rwhp out of the box using the Novi 1000 blower and 5.5psi of boost.
Those numbers are using the aftercooler setup though, I opted for the intercooler instead as I was hoping I wouldn't have to run as much boost but still get decent numbers… and it looks better
To compensate for the boost loss of the intercooler I bought a 4.25” pulley for the kit.
I sent it to a friends garage to get it done quickly. It was done in a couple of days and it fired up first time without any issues.
I did a few runs and made sure the AFR was at a suitable level when it was up at 9k rpm.. it’s holding at about 12.5 which is fine for this setup and it goes well. The best part is the higher gears, 3rd and 4th are pretty scary (not done 5th and 6th yet..) It has the exact same characteristics as before but it’s far more exaggerated now.
So after having it on a couple of weeks.. what next…?
I’m going to put that pulley on and slightly overspin the blower (once it breaks I’ll buy the N1200). So I’m just waiting for my AEM 1052u, ACT clutch pressure plate and ID1000’s to arrive then it’s going straight in to get sorted out and mapped. I’m hoping for 400whp then I’ll leave it there. The stock block is good for some serious numbers, at 500 the diff might need looking at and 600+ needs engine work. I think 400 will be more than enough though. So I’ll keep you posted, I don’t know what the current power is so will be interesting to see how much more power the new pulley will provide. I’ll keep you posted, some more pics;
