Not my fault, not a crash, but my stupid mrs winging open the passenger door onto a car, with a little wind assistance according to her

Door took off the guys side light cover and damaged the mounting clip belwo, just before the front door, and guess what, he was sitting in his car. He wasn't impressed and although I tried to fix it (in vain) gave him my number so he can give me a call when he gets his mate to get a new clip and bulb in place so I can give him the money for it. It's a crappy banged up mk3 (I think) astra.

Is this the correct course of action, and what should I do when it comes to the sorting him out the money for replacement ? I don't want this guy ripping me off etc or suddenly trying to go through insurance (if he even has it). Hey, you never know how silly someone is, and he was a fairly old guy who certainly wasn't english in origin (just for reference, don't flame).

Funny convo though:

Him: It's not funny who do you think you are talking to, that is broken and cannot be fixed ?
Me: Well no it doesn't stay on, you need a new clip to hold the orange cover on.
Him: You an engineer, do you know who you are talking to, I am mechanic and build cars.
Me: :D:D:D I'm a track engineer on the underground, I know exactly what I'm on about.

p.s. The mrs will obviously be paying me back, and not just with money ;)
