Hey everyone,

i just got my hands on 2 supermicro servers. from the picture it looks like there is no cd/dvd drive nor a place to put one. its got internal IDE connections. my question is how will i install server 2008 without a cd/dvd drive??

Are they dedicated for proper server use? cos if it aint got enough room for a rom drive does the guts of it have enough gumf to work as a server?

I think all of the supermico 1U server cases I've used have had a slot for a slim line (laptop) optical drive (even if they dont come fitted). Are not expecting a full fight standard optical drive slot are you?

But if its 1u then its 1u, a standard height of 44mm (approx). All my 1u servers have standard rom drives in them. So seeing as yours is the same height as mine (1u) and obviously the same width (19") then is your a lot shallower, hence the lack of space?

I don't think i've ever come across any 1U box which had a proper optical drive in it, certainly all the ones from dell/compaq/supermicro i've had were slimline/laptop style.
