So what can we expect in the 34"+ 21:9 space this year with new cards coming out?

The latest acer/asus monitors seem very good (hassles aside), but with DP 1.3 et al pending, does anyone know if there are new displays on the horizon? Can we expect 144 as standard in superwide, will games support it for new single cards?

New cards are inbound, what about new screens? Does anyone really know?

Cheers.

Sadly i have no idea. I do hope we will see OLEDs 21:9 in the 1440p range. They should be fairly easy to drive with the next gen of GPUs from AMD and nVidia. To me the most important think is not resolution but panel tech. IPS has some annoying flaws like glow and both IPS and TN suffer from backlight bleed in various degrees. OLEDs or similar tech would be very welcome as the best of both worlds. Fast response times and great colors with perfect blacks in ultra wide format would be a dream comes true for me. That would be worth paying 900-1000 quid for imho as an early adopter (compared to the latest Acer/Asus screens).

Thanks guys - I suspect there'll be a flood of updates when the new cards come out.

Surprisingly quiet on the screen front.

LOL, he said 2016, not 2018. We will NOT see 21:9 OLED in 2016, not a snowball's chance in hell!

Without a doubt though, BLB needs to be sorted... it's getting ridiculous how bad some monitors are, and pretty much every so-called premium monitor release has been a lottery as to whether you get a good one or not. No other component is like this, nor would we accept it if it was.

What we SHOULD hopefully see later this year is faster refresh 4K and 21:9. Nothing has been confirmed yet though, short of some new panel spec info floating around.

144hz 21:9 without the bloomin panel lottery and I will be happy.

£500+ for a gamble is poor.

Cutting edge technology or not, there are no such gambles with CPUs and GPUs at launch.. not to the same degree.

AU Optronics have made a fudge of it.

The monitor scene was stagnant for years, until about 2ish years ago when gsync came which to me was a total revolution.

Now we have super wide with gsync/ free sync and high enough Hz to be fantastic for gaming. I think the monitor scene will stagnate for a while again personally, until we get oled. 4K 120hz is something a lot of people would like, but even with the next round of cards I guarantee you will need 2 to drive that so the whole cycle and story remains the same. We need oled for a proper leap in overall monitor tech and image quality and I reckon that will be quite a long way off yet for consumer pc monitors.
