Supplements the debate/discussion thread

im interested to see what every one loads up there pre/post workout shakes with?

i have 3 different pre workout energy supplements i take, sometimes i mix them in small quantities, sometimes i just take 1, etc. but i do take breaks and not use anything.

Jack3d, Anaudralic State GT and Amino Energy are the 3 i use.

as for a shake (myofusion), i dont take a pre workout shake only post workout, with a multi vit (opti men or orange triad), and 1 of 3 oils (chosen randomly from fish, cod liver or omega 3,6,9), and glucosamaine (however you spell it, joint supplement).

i also take BCAA's intraworkout (purple wraath or xtend)

i have 2 types of creatine (creapure micronized mono from ON and green magnitude) but i have not touched them yet, on a cut right now.

these i find to be main staples:

protein blend
creatine
BCAA's
Oil
Multi Vit and joint supplement
pre workout energy blend or pump product

i dont touch anything else really unless i have an injury then i use Cissus

Just finished my 5KG of my protein whey. Was an ok protein shake, had some strength increases but not so much in size. So decided to order a new protein I never tried before and went with this one.

That's a weight gainer rather than a straight protein powder and your size and strength gains all come down to your overall diet rather than your protein choice.

I currently have two protein shakes per day right now, each shake consists of 300ML of milk and 3 scoops of Myprotein Whey Protein (75g of actual protein per shake). I also take a multivitamin tablet and a green tea tablet each morning. I'm only 5 foot 7 and weigh 10 stones exactly so I'm trying to put on some lean muscle!

My diet is pretty clean and healthy with the occasional junk food (max of once every two weeks or so).

I'm guessing my calorie intake is around 1500 - 2000, give or take. But I do have around 200g of protein per day which is more than enough from what I've read.

Are the supplements I'm taking and my diet good enough? or is there anything else that would be beneficial to me?

Combine it with a good workout plan and plenty of rest and see how you get on, if you don't see any gains in a month or 2 then you can adjust from there.

Fat burners - placebo or actually work?
I tried xenadrine rfa-x and in 2 weeks i lost half a stone. I had no side effects apart from sweating like a beast when doing exercise.I stopped taking them for several months. I started taking it again from the same pot and getting a funny tummy and difficulty sleeping. Even when I take it with food and no later than 4pm. So i assume once its opened they have a certain shelf life and chucked them away. I have recently bought hydroxycut hardcore which from the ingredients is very similar to xenadrine rfa-x.
I never follow the guidelines on dosage because you take1 tablet twice a day up to 3 twice a day in a week. This seems way too excessive for me so always stick to 1 twice a day. They definitely give a bit of a kick with regards to caffeine and vitamin b12 to pump you up for working out but is it all BS?
I usually eat very well, high protein and little junk but I do have a binge drink session once a week and this is usually followed by junk food which I crave when hung over. I am trying to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time. I was to be stronger and ripped. I know drinking doesn't help but I do enjoy a good drink. I don't drink if I am not getting drunk and I would only say i get drunk once a fort night. My diet consists of:

2 scoops of whey and cereal.
Left over dinner - always healthy
2 scoops of whey post work out
then healthy dinner.

Started making protein bars to snack on when I get back from work which consists of oats, whey and peanut butter.

fat burners are mostly rubbish and the ones that do work are dangerous and not allowed to be talked about on here.

also depends on your starting weight, if you weigh 25 stone its easier for you to lose half a stone than it is someone weighing 12 stone for example.

also your only supposed to aim for 1lb of fat loss a week maximum, unless your morbidly obese.

I always thought 2lbs was pushed as the safe number before lean mass started to be lost?
That's obviously based on you not carrying huge amounts of excess fat and more what you will level out to as you always lose a bit more in the beginning.

2lbs is like 1kg, 1kg a week surely cannot be bodyfat unless your morbidly obese.

1lb a week is the safe max i think, unless your morbidly obese then you can safely lose more.

Very calorie dense (Work out your total calorie intake properly without lying to yourself).

Also if you're not dedicated enough to stop binge drinking/eating junk food then I would not be taking fat burners.

My Protein Whey has really shot up in price. About 8 months ago I got 5kg unflavored for ~30, now it is going to set me back 45 :S

Still, for some reason I love the taste of the stuff especially with milk. I actually look forward to my 2 coop + 400ml of milk serving in the evening all day :)

Also thinking about giving creatine a first try, as a lot of people rave about the stuff.

20% off 5KG of whey isolate (flavoured) at myprotein.com

Code IS20 when ordering is what you want.

For those who have not ordered before, you might be able to use MP15628 for an additional discount, not sure if it allows more than one though.

Yep, prices have shot up, 5kg flavoured is normally over £70 atm!! crazy.

Prices are just getting insane now aren't they. I think the only 5kg bag you can get for under £50 now is MP impact with the price beater for IS.

When my current bags run out I think I'm going to seriously just buy a herd of cattle instead of whey.

it's inflation and supply and demand, add in transportation costs, the prices are still relatively cheap compared to some other things.

cashew nuts for the big bag is now £4.50 ish at Asda, i remember when it was under £2 only a few years back. i have now switched to habanero chilli peanuts now instead, even though cashews are my favourite.

myofusion the brand of protein i buy, hasn't changed price at all over the past year, yet has a new improved formula

http://www.cheapuksupplements.com/c...ate/gaspari-nutrition-myofusion-hydro-2.27-kg

4 tubs = £33.99 a tub, that's the same price as a year ago, or so i think it is. it's only the non branded companies that have raised prices, so its a bit of confusion on my part as to why branded companies have not raised prices.

I'd imagine it's because the bulk suppliers run on such a tiny margin that any increase in price will wipe out their profit so they've got to pass it on, whereas the big branded guys will have much more of a safety margin or can afford to make a loss on whey while they profit on their other products.

was so annoyed with couriers today - ordered from MP yesterday (first order) was to be delivered today (paid for next day delviery) all good stuff - wife stayed in all day

1st off we were carded without a knock on the door!! first fume - carded said it would be taken to post office

then phoned up and it'd be redelivered later in the day ...(not) - second fume

phoned up again at 12.15 to ask if at post office as we knew it shut at 1pm - nope its not they said - driver is going to deliver to you later

nothing at 4pm -so called them again - and were told it was left at the postoffice at just after 12 !!!! - PO shuts at 1pmon Wednesdays

how incompetent can you get

hoping to get my delivery back off MP - not fussed about the monetary value itself - but the principal- with the hope they can claw it back off the courier - I hate being lied to and messed around - and it happened multiple times today

I don't need the stuff today - but my wife kindly waited in all day - so I'm accordingly fuming
