Not so, am3+ has more pin holes but bd doesn't use them all, even current x6s don't use all the pinholes in am3. Look:

Crosshair formula iv on the left, ud5 rev2.0 on the right, am3 socket iv is bd compatible with a bios update:

So why can't gigabyte do it?

then im not sure . should contact gygabite and ask them i guess , but wouldn't 3.0 bios update for bulldozer work 2.1.

also by looking at pictures board has bit few changes over previous revisions.

I don't think the rev3.x bioses are compatible with the rev2.x boards, can't hurt to try though i guess as they have a dual bios and bios recovery, might wait till bd actually comes out and see if someone else does it first though.

all versions if you read on the page says 3.0 , 2.1, 2.0 scroll down and it says that it will support 32 nm upcoming processors
only 3.0/3.1 support 32 nm processors because they changed the socket so the pin hole is open where the BD has the extra pin...

on the 2.0 version the hole is closed

I thought Bulldozer required a high voltage / higher current than existing chips and the motherboard HAD to support the extra demand. Older boards might not be able to do that?
