support for the british worker

Do you think the UK will break EU policy and go for protectionism? Ultimately importing foreign workers is likely to become more common in the future. Improving workers skill-set is the best way to increase job prospects in the future.

It won't though, because unfortunatley not everyone has it in them to gain a University level qualifications, and are stuck in basic jobs etc through no fault of their own. Should we just forget them because due to cheap imported labour they can't earn enough to maintain a basic standard of living, and let them claim benefits, which is costing us. Or keep them doing the jobs they are able to, have them earning enough to have a standard of living and pay taxes?

Ahahahahahahaha no.
Did you see the amount of dumb looking skinheads.
They're all dumb racist morons easily coerced. I'd rather have a foreigner do unskilled work than a racist englishman.

People always have an option to have an education (it's free in this country), to be trained, they have to put the work in. Which they don't.

Aparently if you aren't a racist skinhead neo nazi white supremacist moron, who doesn't say something about britain every 5 minutes then you're not english. I bet if you asked all those blokes there, most of them would say they hated students as well.

Everyone can do and learn something. That's the benefit of being a human, y'know? Fact of the matter is, so many people in this country "Can't work, won't work". They won't take cleaning jobs, etc.

As someone with a level 4 education and experience in various jobs, I disagree with that asinine, sweeping statement.

More like the employers are too fussy to offer someone the opportunity to learn the nuances of a job. I'm expected to have experience under every specific job title to be given a second look. Aside from which, most cleaning jobs aren't more than 8 hours a week. I suppose you're the expert at living on £45 a week?

Since you say everyone can learn, how about you learn some respect and put yourself in the shoes of someone less fortunate? You wouldn't last a day...

Why not? It's not like the rest of the EU hasn't gone for protectionist policies already. Whether we do it officially or unofficially is a different matter. The preferential treatment of foreign workers could be NuLabour's poll tax. It's only a matter of time before the anger about this spills over into riots.

I obviously have more faith in people than you do. I stand by what I say - everyone can learn skills and put them to use and trade. That is why we are here, populating the planet.

Some people just don;t have the drive to learn new skills, went they've spent the last 'x' amount of years working in a trade, which no oe wants to employ them in at the moment.

You obviously don't, otherwise you wouldn't have labelled "many people" as "can't work, won't work". I don't have any faith in a sub-set of the population that exploits the rest of us.

There's also that requirement called financial backing...I believe that is why we have seen gigantic retail chains disappear overnight. Would you like to give me a more specific response, or are you going to continue with the sweeping statements?

You think this is free? The money to retrain doesn't come out of thin air. Businesses seem especially unwilling to do so, presumably to cut their expenses...

So you've generalised the people striking at the moment as neo nazi skinheads, but in the same post bemoan the fact that they might apply a negative stereotype against students?

I'm fully aware learning new skills (officially) and companies training people isn't 'cheap'...that what I was saying.

I don't personally, want to go off learning some new skill, if it's not going to get me anywhere what so ever.

I could show him a group of neo nazi skin heads if you want? He would then know WHAT an actual neo nazi skin head is.

Not some english man with a skin head :p Put it that way.

And there are also plenty of hardworking people in low skilled jobs who simply do not have the ability to gain degree level education. Why is it that just because people do not have degrees and are in less well paid jobs they are branded as fat, lazy, page 3 staring, cuppa tea drinking whiners?

I've done plenty of domestic cleaning (for other people) but apparently this doesn't count when I apply for the myriad of cleaning jobs around here... it wouldn't surprise me if a "Cleaning Competency Certificate" appears soon and costs £x hundred to take.

Or maybe they don't have Mummy and Daddy spoiling them and paying their fees.

heh I hope not :p

This is one reason I still have no job after losing my previous one, because theres piece of paper saying I can do the job basically.

Just because certain people somehow don't have the ability to get a degree (come on it's not hard) doesn't mean they can't make a success of themselves. Look at all the millionaire entrepreneurs out there without a degree. Not having a degree is not an excuse for working in a fudge packing factory - being fat and lazy is.

What? What a pathetic statement.

So because I haven't gone to University, it;s because my parents don't want to pay the fee's? Or parent I should say.

Can you please do some resarch before continually spouting garbage like this?

Nobody needs mummy and daddy to pay Uni fees anymore - you pay NOTHING until you are established in your career.

I think maybe there is too much Generalising and not enough facts in this post (not that I’m supplying facts:p). I'm for protecting British people but at the same time if we cant get people to fill a job from within Britain then we need to look at other options.

Such as why aren’t we able to fill the job, is training needed or a good kick up the bum in order to get these people working etc. But if we can’t fill the job in a short space of time then I have no problem with foreign workers taking the job. It just needs more control maybe on how jobs are given to foreign workers.

I don’t like the sweeping statements always saying that foreign works do a better job thought. I think its down to the person not where there from personally as I know many lazy foreign workers as well as the hard working foreigners and the same can be said for British people. It all depends on the person not the media stereo type of the week or whether they get paid more or less.

*Ducks*;)

Sarcasm. But to answer your question, I would surmise you either a) took a different route or b) couldn't get the funding.

That was entirely sarcasm, in response to other people's sweeping statements. If you read the earlier discussion in this thread, you'll see I'm quite aware of the current rules.

Although I should add that it wasn't the case in 2004.
