Supported RAM speed

Hi, I was just looking over at some parts and I noticed that my Mobo says it only supports:
Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz

But my question is if i were to use a 1600Mhz would it still work or do I have to purchase one which is one of the listed supported Speeds.

well dill i would also like to know whether this means it cant run 1600mhz, it would benefit mankind if we found this out.

The max you can run is 2200mhz ram so running 1600mhz will be fine, you may need to manually adjust the speed in the BIOS.

What are the components your thinking of using.

Thanks for clearing that up, I currently have a Gigabyte P55A-UD4
Is there a complete guide on how to properly use the BIOS settings for this sort of thing and other necessary things.

The P55A-UD4 motherboard is really easy to work with. You will find the bios setting quite intuitive even for a first time users.

To get your ram to run at the speed that they are spec'd at is quite easy.

The very first screen you see when you boot into the bios is the one you want. What you do is go to the CPU or the Ram option. You simple scroll down the list.

For the CPU page, all you do is select XMP enabled. It is about a third of the way down. And that it. Your ram will now be running at the speed that it says it will. The XMP profile changes your bios for you. So you will find that your CPU has had its mulitpier changed (or not depending on the speed of the ram) and the BLK changed (or not

) But the long and the short of it is that the ram will now be running at the advertised speed.
