My Mates and I have been playing SC2 online 4player 2v2 and the game just seems to lag to the point it stops for about half a minute.
Does anyone know why this is?
And could we do something to let it run faster?

Cheers, John

You can use one of the F keys (F2 maybe) to bring up the scoreboard, which also shows the sim speed. 10 is good, 1 means you're just capable of running the game at normal speed. Less than 1 means the computer is running the game slower than real time, so obviously creates lag.

press shift + @ to open console

then type ren show_netspeed 1 -i think it's that, when you type ren show it'll show a shorter list, have a look at that and watch for timeouts. if that's happening, the only way we fixed it was to make sure everything installed on our pc's for the game we the same (mods, FA Forever lobby client etc). it *should* be fine then

the number will decrease with units, and unless anyones running a dual core, it will still be alright. my e8400 @ 4ghz ran FA fine upto about 1000 units

also run core maximizer to give you better threading (although i think FAF or Forged Alliance might have it built in)

Right We have managed to narrow it down, there are 5 of us playing at any 1 time. All of us either run Quad Core/Dual Core processors bar 1 of us whos computer is from 2007 and SIM rating is 4/5 whilst we all run at 8-10 It think tha is just the problem!

Cheers for all the info Helped me understand more about what was going on!

Sim speed of 4/5 should still be fine though. IIRC, in SC2 a sim speed of 1 means it is processing in realtime. Greater than 1 means that it is processing things faster than required, so essentially has spare overheard available. Once it drops below 1, the game speed also slows down, because the whole game has to go at the speed of the slowest computer, since it can't play the game at real time, and it would cause desync issues if the others carried on playing normally.
