Anyone managed to get this to work? I've tried everything possible and people outside the LAN can still not connect. I assume the direct IP option is for lan based games only? Port forwarding, etc simply doesnt work :( Am I doing sometihng wrong or is the shocking gpgnet the only way to play internet games with mates?

Port forwarding works fine!

I was playing a direct IP game last night with a friend. Opened a port on my friends router and no problems at all.

Make sure you are using your internet IP to connect not your internal IP.
Make sure you have allowed it on your firewall

cheers

Thanks for the reply. At least I know it works. Got port forwarding working for every machine behind the router and for torrents so had just assumed that the game didnt work over the internet that way! Must have been my mate typing something in wrong in that case

Had a 2 hour game over GPGnet last night and just as it was getting good the client crashed causing the game to quit. Wish they would implement a save option for MP games :(

Got it working in the end! Read the readme and there are two UDP ports you have to forward too. I thought just the port you were hosting the game on had to be opened but I was proved wrong. Direct IP option is sooo good as no more GPGnet crashes since!!! \o/
