ok quick question for all! I play forged alliance loads but on maps with loads of units I lag up. No suprise there. Just wonder what the bottleneck is. when I am lagging I can still look around fine without any extra lag so it wouldnt be gfx. That leaves either cpu or ram. 2gb ram, amd 3800 @ 2.2ghz for cpu. I could get a new cooler and OC the cpu more, but would it help or would I need more ram?
FYI I am on windows XP Dual screen.

CPU almost certainly. The more units there are, the more load it puts on your CPU.

SupCom is known to be very demanding on the CPU anyway - lots of people struggle when there are multiple players and lots of units.

Turn off the intelligence circles. They chomp cpu cycles. So when you click you get it just the same as vanilla.

3800 isn't an ideal processor for SupCom and is 100% the bottleneck

SupCom runs fine on 2gig or RAM and will run at max settings with a 7800, but anything short of a 6600 is going to cause issues for you.

As has been said:
Core maximiser
intelligent circles
settings on low
turn off the background image
set process affinity to high
Try some console tweaks

Basically with that processor you aren't going to able to play maps bigger than 10*10 just don't bother it will be a waste of your time.

yeah maps 20x20 do run fine with like 4 or so players, but after about 20 mins on a rush AI it does slow a lot. Will tyr the maximiser and see if it helps and also try overclocking the cpu a load more. Havent even tried to see how far this will clock yet

How dya do this is FA, I can't see to find it, and haven't got around to looking in the manual yet. (game still runs fine even on 81km maps and 7 AIs - as you would expect on a 4gig ram 3.6GHz quadcore

)
I just find them annoying at times.

Loving FA though, the new stuff is all awesome.

Running XPpro so at the moment its not seeing all my ram, but its definitely better than it was at 2GB (bought the extra ram for 3d work where even the 1 gig boost helped + it was so cheap!)
Will most likely be going to vista / XP64 when I get around to doing a reinstall.
