Is anyone able to play with 6 or more players now at full speed with large maps and units?
Last time i checked the latest PCs couldnt but now im guessing there are 8x CPU cores and i saw 16gb ram advertised on here for about 5 quid

Yes. FA seems to cope better though.

Although performance can be hit and miss, even on comparably good systems.

There's quite a few tweaks around to help too.

Played fine with 6 players, 20km map and large units on vanilla here. Not tried FA much yet. That's on a Q6600 @ 3 GHz, 8800 GT, 4 GBs memory.

My game only ever slows down if I have more than 4 AI's in the game, Im hosting and the unit count nears the 500 mark. If I play with my mates then we have no problems.

They shouldnt of released this game when they did, no1 could run it correctly when it first came out and now its just starting to be okay.

Would run ok so long as you didn't expect to play with 1000 units on each of 7 teams. People said the same thing about Crysis too, I don't think software developers should hold off releasing things until the hardware can perform.
Imagine if Hardware makers didn't bother improving until software caught up...

With both Hardware and Software pushing the boundaries games can step forward at a better pace :)

I had no problem playing it on my crappy system when it came out (3800 X2, 2GB Ram, 7600GT) and it only got better when the performance patch came out.
