Hi people

I have a surface pro 4 bought used for my daughter i5 128gb turns out there was a password on windows 10 login screen asking to login which we didn't no it, so watched a online videos held the power and shift on boot up could get to advanced reset this PC chose to remove all files setting kept saying there was a problem and just goes back to advanced settings screen

So then I try'd to go into the bios to change the boot setup but no a pass word only letting me see basic info.

I've now dropped it in to a local shop I shown them I could get into the C: by trying to find a image in advanced settings they must have now right clicked reformatted the C: now soon as boots up goes rite to password no windows login because it's easy to tell they reformatted the C: this is what I found out the the day after leaving it with them so I give them a peace of my mind and said it's worse now then when I give it you....so his friend is saying it needs taking apart I'm pose to collect it tomorrow but I can't see how there can fix it because of the incription on uefi to change boot order..... I see a couple of people said to put the M2 connected to another pc put windows back on it build back up....but won't it still be incripted via the bios and could some please help any advice should be great

Sorry for the long story

Uefi password?
Note
UEFI passwords are used primarily by enterprises and IT professionals to limit the types of changes that employees can make to their devices. If you are part of an enterprise, contact your IT administrator if you have any questions or issues with your UEFI password. If you are not part of an enterprise and you choose to create a UEFI password, make sure to document your password in a safe place. You cannot reset your UEFI password, and Microsoft cannot retrieve it.

You can't.

I fail to see why, when you saw there was a password, you didn't contact the person you bought it from and ask them what it was.

If there's a BIOS settings password, and you don't know it, then you're screwed.

This is similar to the other thread in which many many people were just like OMG, remove the drive and install somewhere else. They don't get it. The drive is protected by the TPM2 chip which acts as the protector. If you take the drive out, yes, you'll be able to install windows on it, but when you put it back into the SP4, the TPM chip will see that the secure boot flag has altered and won't boot to Windows.

Put a new drive in the SP4? Nope, because you can't get past the UEFI BIOS Password to change the boot order, I assume?

Thank you for the feed back the sale wasn't done through eBay as such we never hit the buy it now but did speake over messagenger via eBay and bought outside of eBay rules they have confirmed I'm not covered

My daughter was in when it was brought to us it's a hard learning lesson I'm guessing the person may of left the company and taken it with him by the sounds of it

Thanks again for the feedback

Thanks pcfarrar I've had too take a loss now but it's a massive learning curve I've just been to Apple Store and now purchased the iPad Pro for my daughter for her graphic designs as I told her to buy in the first place as I M more OSX then windows but the SP4 is great to draw on but also lags on touch

But lesson learned

Sounds like it could be Bitlockered tbh. Not that that's going to help you much!

Sorry but I cannot believe you spend a couple of hundred quid on something apparently advertised on ebay and did the deal outside of the standard procedure.

Even if you're not covered by ebay surely its worth at least trying to contact the seller still because he/she might have genuinely forgotten they added a password.

Or it was nicked in which case you want to report to ebay anyway.

It's been reported but they've said there's no point of return of bad feedback as it was ended as sold elsewhere and there as been no contact with the seller

But I was quoted £200 for a motherboard replacement then £50 to re-install windows plus vat it was a very costly error I managed to recoup £150 for parts which is a big price to pay for letting my gaurd down and not being at home

Many thanks again for all your advice with this issue
