Surface with one note for handwriting notes?

Hi,

Wondering if any surface owners can help me out?

I've no experience with Windows 10 on a tablet. Only android. Not familiar with the surface and what changed on each generation either.

I've been considering picking one up to use with the pen for handwriting notes. Probably in one note as I've used that before on laptops and desktops and it could sync with my phone. I'm open to suggestions of other appropriate apps though.

Main use would be note taking in meetings and to quickly capture key information when gathering requirements from users.

You might say what's up with a note pad and pen and it's a fair question.

I can't really use a laptop in a lot of these scenarios anyway. The advantage of the surface I think would be that my notes would automatically sync with my laptop and phone.

Also I've seen some videos were you can either write and have the document display your handwriting or have it actually convert the handwriting to text. Obviously that could save a lot of time depending on whether that feature is actually accurate and reliable and well implemented as it would save me having to scrawl notes and type then up seperatley.

Is handwriting with the pen decent?
Is the handwriting to text function dependable?
How is the battery life?

What spec and generation do I need if it's pretty much just for one note, email and web browsing? Maybe the odd word doc etc.

Any generations to watch out for either good or bad?

I've not set on a budget yet but it will be on the lower side as obviously this is all it will be used for so I'll be looking a few generations old I'd think. It will be second hand.

Any guidance at all would be really helpful as I've never used a surface.

Thanks

Maybe this should have been in laptops and tablets.

Hadn't noticed before that there are two forums listed as covering tablets.
