I need a surge protector and i don't want to get one from where i work as even with staff discount, they are still pretty expensive. I have a lot to plug in to it anyways as i am lacking sockets...off the top of my head; around 6 sockets needed and thats excluding my iPod and phone charger.

Belkin SurgeMaster Gold Series / 7-Socket Mains Surge Protector is an idea...the main big electrical items are a Panasonic LCD, Vostro 1500, Acoustic Energy Aegis M 2.1 and soon an Xbox 360.

Edit: I don't want a white one. :o

I've got 2 Belkin Surgemasters, got one of them this xmas, but the other has been going brilliantly for the last year.
The electric is quite temperamental at my Uni house, and will trip over nothing, yet I've had no problem with items being connected via the Belkin. Gets a thumbs up from me :)

As to the colour, it's buried deep under my desk with cables all around so it doesn't bother me :p

Did a bit of research and i knew i wanted a Belkin...ended up going for the one in my OP but always great to hear feedback. Yours came just before i ordered it so thanks PinkFloyd for reassuring me! :p

Belkin Pure-AV Isolators ...these are the higher quality ones that also filter the power they really weigh a tonne and feel quality, if you can find them for cheap like i did a while back you will feel like you cheated them big time.....got them for not much more than a powerboard from the high street :p

i run the coax to the Virgin+ box through the Isolator and i've noticed a decrease in picture/sound break up as well, quality product.

I've just bought an APC surge protector, comes with coax and RJ45... although I don't quite understand why the last 2 sockets are turned around... surely that's going to make using them both at once.... impossible? (unless its for plugs that have transformers 'the wrong way round'? lol)

Can I just warn people that using massive multi way adapters can be dangerous. The load on the mains plug shouldn't exceed 13amp. So if you have everything plugged into a massive multi adapter, this limit can be exceeded. While the fuse should protect you, it can still increase the risk of fire etc. If you have loads of equipment in one area, you are safer off getting extra plug sockets fitted. Just my 2p. :)

Interesting...so perhaps it would be best for me to use 2 surge protectors as i only have 2 electric sockets rather than plug it ALL into just the one?

That's what I would do yeah. 4 way adapters should be ok, but when you get these 8/12/16 way adapters it just gets silly. Same goes for daisy chaining adapters together as well.

Its recomended that a max of 3800w per 13amp socket is the max. Thats around 20 Xbox 360 consoles per socket...

I can't see a home cinema system, especially the bits he listed coming anywhere near to 13 amps.

Sorry to thread jack - but I've been wondering if there are any good ones with 3m+ cable lengths? (Hoping for a 5m one but have not been able to track one down).

Do said things exist?

I have got a 6 way individually switched Masterplug surge protector that does RJ11, RJ45 and coax. Guarantees up to £25,000 I think. I got it from a catalogue shop.
