My Honda friend just took my car for its service tomorrow and left me with an 07 Civic 2.2 Diesel. Despite being a space ship, it has loads of kit and is reeeeeaaaalllllyyy comfy. I was quite surprised and I quite like it for what it is although its not as much fun as the Type-R

Sadly, the engine is noisy and it doesn't feel as well built as my EP3 Type-R. Shame really, it handles really well and actually has some go in it but its all a bit too fussy and lacks a solid feel to it that I get from my EP3.

Seems to be the general opinion of these new Civics too. Is this because I'm driving a demonstrator perhaps or is that really how they are? A guy I met with a new shape Type-R said he wouldn't miss it if he went back to the EP3 but never mentioned any build quality issues. My EP3 is so solid it does my back harm I think, whereas this Civic is way too comfy.

I have mixed opinions of it, to compare properly I need to get out in the new Type-R as this is obviously designed more for comfort. I just thought I'd share my opinion as It's rare I drive other vehicles to my own.

Im surprised you find it poorly build, i find them a lot better than the EP3, i know 3 people with CTR's and whilst as a hot hatch they are great, the interior leaves a lot to be desired, its very cheap and nasty apart from the seats.

Had both a normal and type R (new Civic). At stock, the "normal" Civic actually handles really well, the seats are more comfy for the longer drive and it's well damped. Also rolls a bit.

My non Type R Honda was the worst build quality car my dad had seen in 30 years... Swindon can't build cars. Type R was quite a bit better, not perfect however.

Morale of the story, don't buy a Honda if it's made in the UK. FD2 for me next, JDM tyteness and all that.... shizzle?

FN2 (new Type-R) interior is definitely a whole lot better than the EP3. I own an EP3 Type-R myself and I'd swap for the FN2 interior in a heartbeat if it was an option, it just feels more substantial and commensurate with the sort of money the car costs.

On the other hand I wouldn't buy an FN2 because of the exterior (rear end is god awful) and the fact that in performance terms it's no faster than the older model, and is actually heavier.
