Hi Guys,

I've just acquired (for free) the following:

Sony STR-DB930 receiver
Sony SA-VE705 speakers

Now, I literally know nothing about sound systems etc.. so was wondering if you wonderful people could grace me with your knowledge.

My intention is for this to go into the Man Cave (in sig) connected to a TV that will be wall mounted. (the TV isn't great, 'Vistron'. so practically unbranded, but a TV non the less!).

Are these kind of things hard to set up? Could anybody offer any advice/hints/tips/tricks when setting one of these up?

My first impression is "good god there are a lot of I/O sockets!" which is making me feel a little overwhelmed!

Here's your manual:

No HDMI, but you can still use the optical inputs at least. It all really depends on what you're hoping to connect to it.

Wonderful, thank you! - It will just be hooked up to a TV purely for NFL via the Game Pass app.

I'm guessing I'd just bypass the media centre and go straight through the TV?

Been doing a bit of research etc. I've got two options to hook this upto a TV, or a Projector. However, both TV/Projector will be displaying the HTPC.

Do you think i'll need to upgrade my amp to something with HDMI to be able to use the speakers etc...?

Not necessarily, most TV's have an optical out which you could use to connect to the receiver and most mobos have an optical (some a digital too) which you could also use to connect to the receiver. You'll probably find that the DAC's in the receiver are a lot better than the DAC's in the TV and your HTPC.

So.. for example, if I went and brought an Optoma HD65, I'd be able to hook it up to my receiver? will I need any specific cables/converters to do it?
