Ok, i have just installed the X-Fi fatal1ty, and i am using analoug, on this creative dvd thing, i got a message saying, to experience multi-channel audio, make sure youre DVD Audio Decoder uses SPDIF, so this means i have to use a digital connection like coax for DTS and dolby digital 5.1 right?

You can either let the card decode the Dolby Digital/DTS and pass it over the analogue cables in full 5.1 or you can use a digital cable to pass the stream to the decoder to let that process the stream.

Both ways will leave you with ultimately the same result.

If you're talking about specific DVD-Audio disks (not movies) then I think there's a limit on how you can play it back, but I can't for the life of me remember if that's limited to digital only or analogue only :o

well, i installed power dvd, put in Meet The Fockers DVD, went into settings, the only options there were 2 speaker mode and i couldent change it, i ticked on Dolby surround compatible downmix, and i wasent surround sound, it was only like stero or somthing, the same coming out of both speakers, the only other option was stero aswell

That's a thing with the software...basically some come with cut-down Dolby Digital decoding so you only get 2 channels. It's very annoying.

Try this WinDVD trial.

yes but i also used Creative Entertainment Center that came with the card, and still its crappy stereo, maybe coax is needed? :'(.

I have never heard a movie in propor surround sound before, downstairs on the home theatre my dad uses pro logic 2 instead of DD 5.1, and still its not right.

In control panel, set speaker options to 5.1. Then in PowerDVD set to 5.1
If you do speaker tests it should cycle through each speaker

You don't need to use digital out to a av amplifier to get dolby digital 5.1, the built-in decoder (hardware or software) will send the outputs to the 5.1/7.1 analogue outputs on the soundcard.

I cant set it to 5.1 in power dvd, it wont let me, there is no option for it.

even on that win DVD, there is no were to change to 5.1 and its still in crappy stereo.

Try "6 speaker" 5.1 is 6 speakers. Also check soundcard settings. If you can't change any speaker setting in power dvd, try a full version...someone said earlier could be a stripped down version.

meh, even with the win dvd, there is no 5.1, any there is no 6ch on any of them, the Full version software called Creative Entertainment center that came with the sound card even aint playing surround sound, i cant see any settings for that, it indeed does look like i need coax, becouse i cannot see any other problems

Music seems to be ok, i was listning to Thriller by michael jackson and you could hear wolves only from the back speakers, so that seems ot be ok, just darn movies :'(

Try this one: http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html

Uninstall WinDVD and PowerDVD then install that, reboot and try playing a DVD in Windows Media Player.

When it starts playing you should get an nVidia icon in your system tray. Double click that, go to the audio tab, speaker setup, tick computer speakers than select center/back/subwoofer. That should give you full 5.1 in DVDs.

right ok yep al try that, thanks in advance if it works :)

Hmmm, i dont have a nvidia GPU, mine is an ATi. Also, unless i am missing somthing, my Audio Chipset aint supported too  my crappy intergrated sound is though

oh oh, forget that, i aint entering 4 digits of my credit card, i dont even think Visa Electron would work, but even if it did, i wouldent enter it anyway, i dont care if its nvidia or what.

Is there any other solution to getting 5.1 dolby digital and DTS in movies and games with analoug?
