My speakers have recently broken and i am thinking about replacing them. I had a 5.1 surround sound system, but i don't know whether getting a new system is worth it. I have a simple 2 speaker set connected to an amp which i could link up to my computer, but is surround sound really worth it? especially if my budget is around 30-50 quid?????

Opinions would be appreciated!

Thanks

Add a 0 to your budget before you go into surround sound. £30-£50 will get you mediocre (at best) 2.0 PC speakers.

Good multi channel sound is worth it.

so id have to be spending £150 to be getting a 5.1 system worth buying?

If thats the case i myt just link up those speakers...

Do you know how much it might cost to get a subwoofer fixed from dell? The sub broke in my current system, which controls the whole system, so yea.... not good. lol

Thanks

Add a 0 onto £50....is £500. :)

It depends what's happened to the sub, could be fuse in the plug and/or internal fuse, but if it's blown the fuse usually for a reason. Check fuse(s) first. Or the power supply or amplifier is blown. Replace with identical type fuses.

£150 will get you a HTIB, but I'd rate sound quality pretty low. £150 will get you a good set of PC active stereo speakers. It'll sound better, albeit not being multi-channel. The problem is usually can't upgrade, so plonking £150 on a PC 2 channel system has no upgrade path. Wheras if you bought a av amplifier or stereo integrated amplifier with speakers you could add speakers as you go along (if you bought av amp) or add av amp plus speakers later on.

But if you're a kid with paperround type of income guess all this is meaningless..

Ha! 50... + 0 does indeed = 500 :p

Well wouldnt say paper round as a job... Im buying a car and new computer aswell and im fast running out of money and i need some money left over for holidays!! So trying to cut down on spending and buying a surround sound system isnt worth £500... at the minute anyway.

Its a connection problem in the back, i think its a dry joint. I took it apart, but couldnt get to the problem due to masses of glue lol.
