Besides the System Shock games, and the recent Resident Evil which seems to be complete pants, are there any other good survival horror games out on the PC?

Think the last decent one I played before SS was the original Alone in the Dark, which must be about 15 years ago :)

bioshock is coming out on the 30th, 3rd part to system shock, but if you didnt like them.....

I wouldn't call it the "3rd part" it is more a spiritual successor as it has no link to System shock in terms of story.

oh right, never played any of the SS games so didnt know. looks good anyway. hope its not going to get my hopes up like Stalker did... it not that bad tbh, finding it hard atm just

Silent Hill & The Suffering are worth a look, other decent ones I have with a horror theme tend to be more FPS shoot-em-ups such as AvP, Condemned, FEAR, etc

I thought Bioshock was put off until the 3rd quarter? Don't know, can't look it up from work.

Didn't know any of the Silent Hill's had been ported, might have a look at that.

Cheers :)

I would still chance Resident Evil 4 on PC. It's such a good game that the fact it's a crappy port may not be enough reason to discount it.
As I understand it, the shortcomings of the PC version are mainly graphical. I would advise to play it with a pad, as it was intended to be played.

Definitely the Silent Hill games. I've played SH2, SH3 and SH4: The Room and all three are very decent ports. They're not perfect but as long as you have an analogue pad (ps2 style preferably) and a little patience in mastering the control system then you'll have a very solid and stable gaming experience. In fact I'd say its better than the console versions since the textures are far more detailed, you have higher resolution and simply just sitting infront of your computer at 2.00am with headphones on and lights off is way more likely to make you crap your pants. I'd recommend Silent Hill 3 as a starting point.

BTW, I forgot mention how awesome the sound effects are in SH3, especially with a good pair of headphones. I can guarantee you now that in a certain room in the beginning mall section you'll turn your head upwards as soon as you enter the room, the sound effect is that realistic.

The Suffering is a wicked game, it brings out the good or bad in you, as well as the main story where you have to make it through to the end,you find yourself in situations where you can be nice and help people or you can be really evil.

Anyone thats played it will know the gas chamber scene, push the button, or not??? ;)
