Hi I've recently purchased the overclockers tech labs prolimatech Megahalems 'ultra silent' edition heatsink http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-001-TL&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2318

I've an issue with the fan though, it comes with it's own temp sensor, if I remove the sensor from the fan (unplug it) it runs at a constant 950rpm and my mobo ASUS p8z77-v can't seem to control it's rate. However if I plug the temp sensor in the fan runs at a lowly 300 - 500 rpm MAX. This is because the temp sensor isn't getting very hot.

According to the following graph, the fan will only start to spin at anywhere near it's top rate when it's own sensor reaches 50 Deg C and greater.

Where can I locate the sensor to get the max temp? It's a flat sensor, and I'm wondering if it should be clamped under the heatsink on top of the CPU? Anywhere else I suspend it in the case won't ever reach 50 Deg C before the CPU is hotter than the surface of the sun !!! So it makes the sensor seem a little pointless.

Okay, I've just been told it's a big no no to clamp the sensor between the cpu and heatsink, so I'm just going to have to change the fans around so this one is a case fan and the case fan (which is controllable by the BIOS) cools the CPU instead.
