hi people, well im just trying out linux for the 5th time in about 8years.
this time ive choosen suse 10.2 to get my teeth into.
but ive come up against a few problems, (i would class myself as a newbie)
id be so so pleased if any of you guys could help me out.

(a little config info)
KDE desktop, suse 10.2.
dfi lanparty ultra-d.
alsa driver installed for sound(alsamixer and kmix installed also)
ati x800 (3d acceleration enabled)

firstly, i cant get any spidf output to my speakers, i can get sound from my monitor but i have no spidf output. ive tried a few mixers, but its seems there is no spidf option, no matter what i change
how do i get that option? ive searched and searched but its baffling me so much.

secondly, i keep getting a blank screen when i logoff from KDE desktop.
any ideas how to stop that? (only when i log off)
its so anoying, or know how i can get back the display once it happens?

thanks Pete

Its called IEC5186 (or something like that, in windows atm)

I got it working in Fedora (cant remember how) but haven't been able to in Arch Linux.

ive done it!!!!

found my device of the digital out by using:-

--------------------
aplay -l
--------------------

then created my own asound.conf file in /etc/ (as there wasnt one)

i used the asound.conf 'default configuration' bit here:-
http://alsa.opensrc.org/Intel8x0
changed my device to hw:0,2 from 0,0

that was it, so im posting here because, there is nowhere on the internet that came up with a proper answer.
linux users go about everything the hard way.
its very confusing...

im still none the wiser about the logout problem though... :(
