Suspected hardware/graphics problem

Hi, so I've just built a new build, 4670k, gigabyte z87-D3HP, 8gb crucial ballistix, 128gb Samsung 840. Got my graphics card delivered today and had nothing but problems. Keep getting Application crashes and BSOD errors.

So, I reinstalled windows from absolute scratch and re-seated te graphica card. Installed the latest chipset drivers, IRST drivers and AMD drivers, ran all the windows updates. I'm still getting crashing. I'm getting one of two errors, either I get "ATIKMDAG.sys has stopped responding" error, or I get a simple BSOD. This is after about 5 minutes of running Unigine Valley, and iRacibg has the same behaviour. Those are the only 2 things ice installed, although BF3 was doing the same before the reboot.

So, opinions? Simply a case of RMAing the card and taking the risk that there's nothing wrong with it. Changing nothing but the graphics card and drivers for my old GTX 460, and the crashing disappears.

Try a BIOS update for the board (latest Betas from Tweaktown)

Is the RAM ok? setup with the correct speeds and timings etc?

Tried different ATI drivers (even older)?

Is the PSU good enough for the ATI card? you haven't said what the ATI card is or the PSU?

Sorry, missed out a lot of stuff. RAM is fine, running correct timings etc, coping well with multiple hours of Intel burn/prime95/memtest. PSU is an XFX 550W Pro, which should be able to cope with no problems. Ati card is a Gigabyte 7850 OC Winforce. I have tried both over volting and under locking the card with the same results. Have already got the latest beta firmware on my mobo, will maybe try with nonbeta.

Hi deko

I am running 8GB Crucial Ballistix on a Z87 D3HP motherboard and I am getting multiple crashes too. I have recently run memtest at boot up and it is picking up hundreds of errors when the two modules are plugged in together. If you run just one of the sticks it comes back with no errors. May be worth you just running that memtest to see if you get the same result as I am still looking into my issue.

Problem turned out to be a bent pin on the Mobo. I did have a problem with a couple of RAM slots being dodgy but that cleared up with a bios update, but turns out 1 of the pins was slightly bent. No idea how, I honestly could not have been more careful when I was seating the CPU, if the pins are bending with a ridiculously careful install then they have problems. I'm not happy about this at all, I'm basically now stuck with a motherboard with a dodgy pin, so the next time I upgrade or even replace TIM/heatsink I'm going to have a world of problems. For all I know it came already like this, as the box was bashed anyway, but obviously OCUK are going to say "you done it, **** off".

Carefully moved the pin slightly then tried it again and all my problems went away. Going to have to re-attach my CPU cooler though, I didn't have any TIM cleaner so just wiped off the thermal paste as best as I could and reapplied a small amount, temps have went up by 5 degrees so I will have to do it again, and I'm ******* myself to go anywhere near it.
