Is there a correlation ?

I've kept my PC suspended for the past few years and have found that I need to replace the RAM once a year. Yes you've guessed it ... I've woken up to busted RAM and am running memtest

Is the RAM overclocked or running higher voltage?

From the RAM's point of view it's always on, so comparing it to a PC that's shut down often it wouldn't last as long. However RAM should last more than 1 year even if on 24/7.

No I've gone back to stock for quite a while now ... cooler temps and nice and quiet, better on power.

Maybe the motherboard is overvolting the RAM - How do I find out ? Anyway I've just lost 2 sticks bizarrely not even on the same channels :/ A 2gig and and another 1gig tracer

Now running a crazy patched up 5gig setup whilst I get on the phone to crucial RMA.

There's no correlation, but maybe suspend to RAM allows the RAM to be exposed more to voltage surges. Also it seems that lots of power supplies use a cheap 2-transistor circuit for the +5V standby power that's known to send out excess voltage if a capacitor fails in that circuitry -- look for the DM311 mod for a compete description of the problem. Lots of failures in power supplies and motherboards are due to low quality electrolytic capacitors, and suspend to RAM puts more wear on them.

Thanks Larry for reminding me to replace my PSU as it's coming to the end of its lifespan.

Welcome to the forums and if you like badcaps then you're most likely going to feel very welcome here... ps You could do with a forum signature - How about ' Dirty Larry ' with a voltmeter in the background ? :D

That is ridiculous rate of death! Ballistix/tracer is your problem I suspect, they have an awful failure rate! The normal crucial stuff is fine, but their 'high-end' stuff is poor.
Next time you buy, try one of the more reputable 'performance RAM' companies (Corsair, Patriot, G.Skill, Kingston, OCZ etc) and you'll probably not have to replace it every year!
