Suzuki DR 125 for first bike...

Are you buying brand new? Best part of 3 grand for a dirt bike seems a bit excessive?

Not that it overly matters as the bike is quite small/light but it outputs 12BHP which is a little below the learner legal limit. I'm a big guy so I chose a bigger bike and I am personally not a fan of dirt style bikes either.

Was proberly going to look at a new one as any older ones even 1year with 3k miles was still asking about £2200 for one. If any one has any other suggestions will be more than happy to take a look at em

You'll lose to much money when you sell that in 12 months to bother even commenting on whether it's any good. All the modern 4 stroke 125's are pretty much the same apart from the style they are made in.
Spend 1500 quid on a low mileage Varadero & sell it in 12 months for 1200 to 1400 quid, They are brilliant 125's.

I'm not so keen on the modern styled bikes but I had a TS125C trail bike to learn on and had a massive amount of fun on it when I was 17. They are easier to control at low speeds and around cones etc. than a sports bike, and taller with an upright riding position so easier to see over cars in traffic. Buying a new one is madness though.

Guess ill avoid getting a new one then :p ill have another look about at 2nd hand ones then see whats up for grabs

just look around in mags/online for one thats a year or two old, youll save a few hundred quid atleast

Mate of mine got an absolute bargain £1300 for a second hand one 09 plate with 300 miles on the clock.

look for a 2 stroke racer like an RS125, or a Mito125 :)

so much more fun than the 4stroke's at that CC.

i had both an NSR125RR in black and silver, and a mito in matte black. both were great fun to ride!

2 strokes burn out, seize up fast, plus the oil is expensive and they drinks two stroke oil

4 stroke is a bit slower i agree but far more reliable, and you dont have to keep buying two stroke oil

Only reason i was going to look at new is due to knowing nothing about them so could fall for a right crappy 2nd hand bike and pay decent cash for it and not know it :(
