Hey guys, just wondered if any of you have one of these, am thinking of getting a new car fairly soon and am more inclined to get a 'hot hatch'. Price wise im looking at around 10-11k.

so please guys, give me your opinions on the car, dont just come along and say 'this car is crap' then give no reason for it. Back up your thoughts.

These cars are actually really rather good. I'm not sure they warrant the asking price new but they really do pack some punch and handle well. Interior is not a bad place to be either. 6-12months used is the place to be.

yeah i've been looking at the used ones and can get one in showroom condition for a tad over 9k, they have just really caught my eye for some reason.

I have test driven then Swifts, and although i'm a reasonably new driver the sport was nice too drive, a little bumpy though. I tested the 1.3 the 1.5GLX and the Sport. The difference between the 1.5 and the Sport(1.6) is huge handling wise!

I was ready to slate it, but doing a little research, it's really rather good for the price.

The alternatives I was going to suggest either cost a lot more or perform less.

Cracking little cars TBH (yes I now own one lol).

Excellent handling (direct comparison to a Fabia vRS)
Pretty punchy although its not going to set the world on fire.

Space inside is excellent as is the layout of the dash (personal preference).

The boot is quite small although still fine for the weekly shop.

Also am I the only one who thinks it looks nothing like the new mini?!

I will upload a couple pics of mine if I remember.

:)

I also agree, and definately MINI Cooper > Suzuki Swift Sport ;)

BeatMaster :D

I'll crack the Mini whip here too, new Mini Cooper over a swift anyday..

Cracking little motors IMO, although I wouldn't call it a 'hot' hatch.

Jane wants one as her next motor, depending on if we can get a couple more years out of the Polo so that the used prices have had a bit of time to plummet  I can't say I'll be trying to pursuade her otherwise.

£10000 - £12000

As said, although a new (r56) shape will set you back 12.5k+

An R50 (2005) ONE will set you back about 10k, a cooper about 12 and an S still hangs around 14-16k.

I use 2 owners clubs, both provide great advice the one in my sig and http://www.mini2.com :)

mini2 is an amazing mini forum, everyone there was really helpful when i visited.

Sad to see myself selling my Cooper S as i do miss certain aspects of it but needed something more practical and economical at my age

It's hardly a direct competitor for the vRS, it's the same type of market, but the main reason why the vRS has sold so well (other than it's a decent car) is that it has a diesel engine, and is marketed a lot more, rather than having a sport badge slapped on it.

For the money of the swift, you do get a few gadgets, but it's more of a warm hatch, than a hot hatch.
