Hi all,

My computer (Windows 7, i7 2700k @4.5GHz) is always using its CPU to the tune of 10-15%. svchost is the process that is responsible. Is there anything I can do to stop that?

Thanks in advance.

Download 'Process Explorer'

It's a more detailed Task Manager.

If you hover on the svchost that is using the cpu time, it will tell you which services are assigned to that svchost exe.

Then you can start, run, " services.msc ", in here find the service and choose Stop.

If the usage drops, you've found the culprit.

Good idea to start it up again and apply all updates.

Nearly 100% that its Windows update. My next door neighbour brought his laptop to me last week stating it had become unusable. 1st boot up, svchost (netsvcs) at at 100% usage yet it wasnt even connected to a network then when I did check it was up to date anyway!

I set windows update to manual and the cpu usage went back to normal straight away.
