Can anyone suggest a way to convert an .svg file from inkscape to .pdf ideally free of charge?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with inkscape. But PDF Creator (open source, free) just sets up like a printer, so if the application has a File | Print feature, this will convert it.

Can you not export to PDF direct from Inkscape?...

Ive just seen the option to save as a PDF from inkscape. Missed it somehow before.

When saving it, what dpi should I choose for the rasterization? Its currently set to 300.

300 should be fine. The smaller the DPI the lower the filesize so if it's huge you might want to adjust it depending on what you're doing with it (emailing or linking on a website vs printing).

Its artwork for a cd and sleeve. Itll be going to a printers and they say save it at the highest resolution possible. Should I make it more than 300?
