Hi guys

As the title suggests I'm looking for a card to play swtor at a good Fps in all aspects of the game. Don't really wanna spend loads as I'm building a new 2500k based rig.
Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Do make sure you overclock that CPU to get the very best from it :)

I'd say try and go Nvidia but thats a personal choice but a GTX570 would be perfect :)

I think I will look to oc the CPU but never done a oc before so a little scared lol. Has there been any promising news on the 7870 yet?

Don't be scared. I'd been out of gaming PC's for about 5 years. I came back to it, came here and in about 10 minutes I'd stably overclocked by 2500K to 4.5GHz thanks to all the great guys on these forums. It really is easy. Just make sure you get a decent cooler and DONT use a stock cooler

If you are mainly just playing TOR then you don't really need to overclock the i5 2500K, as it should already give maximum possible performance in that game while at stock clockspeeds (see here).

Though bear in mind that many other games (such as Skyrim) do benefit from extra CPU grunt, so it is worth having a go at overclocking. It is really rather easy to do with this new CPUs, though it is recommended to get a decent aftermarket heatsink if you want to try pushing it past 4GHz.

It really depends on what settings you want to play at.

At High detail and no AA then a GTX 460 1GB offers good performance (57FPS average, 44 min) at 1680x1050.

But at High detail, 4x AA and Trasparent SSAA then the GTX 460 1GB can only manage 24FPS (average) and 18FPS (minimum) at the same resolution, which most people wouldn't consider playable.

If you want a card for ~£120 then I would have a hunt around for a good deal on a HD 6870 - as you can see in those graphs this card does a lot better than the GTX 460 1GB. The XFX HD 6870 was only £120 here on OCUK yesterday, hopefully they bring that price back soon.

Hi,
My sister plays swtor with a geforce 460 @ 1650x1050 and it runs everything on high, but she does say it runs better on her bf's 6870..i'd go for the best you can afford to,but both are viable for decent gameplay, pvp can be laggy but I think thats the games/bioware's issue more so. Illum is a joke to say the least lol.

The game looks like utter turdtastic rubbish on max settings anyway, I wouldn't spend money on a card to polish a turd marginally when a cheaper card will have it looking almost identical.
