Adebayo Akinfenwa's late goal was enough for Swansea City to capture the Football League Trophy against plucky Carlisle United.
The striker latched onto a flick from Lee Trundle to fire the Swans into a 2-1 lead as extra-time beckoned.
Trundle had given Kenny Jackett's side the lead in the third minute, crashing home a stunning volley.
But the League Two leaders were able to battle back and equalised with an Adam Murray header.
In the glamorous surroundings of the Millennium Stadium, it was perhaps inevitable that the most talked-about player outside the top two divisions made his mark.
Trundle took only three minutes to do just that with a top-class volley that would have graced a much more prestigious occasion.
The Swans' talismanic striker had charged down Westwood's clearance and then broke off to the left as Leon Britton picked the ball up on the opposite wing.
Trundle was perfectly placed to bring Britton's cross down on his chest and then fired a shot on the full that left Westwood stranded, crashing past his grasp and inside the far post.
The opener stung the League Two leaders and they spent most of the next half hour trying to stem the tide.
Westwood needed the application of a hefty bandage on a head injury but, despite enjoying plenty of possession and territorial advantage, Swansea would have regretted not testing him more often.
Andy Robinson latched onto Trundle's through ball but was only able to fire wide.
And, although Westwood was called upon to tip Akinfenwa's shot wide, the forward will have been disappointed that the finish did not match the robust approach run.
They were misses the League One side were to regret as they failed to heed the warning when Karl Hawley had a Carlisle goal ruled out for offside.
The Cumbrians managed to get back on terms five minutes before the break.
Zigor Aranalde launched a long throw into the box and Swansea contributed to their downfall as Kristian O'Leary was only able to flick it on.
Adam Murray was the player who reacted first and he was able to head home from close range.
Westwood was called upon to save twice in the early stages of the second half as both sides sensed victory.
Neither team looked like making the breakthrough as the game became more of a nervy scrap.
But the Welsh side managed to get themselves in front again with nine minutes remaining.
Alan Tate slipped the ball through to Trundle and Akinfenwa was able to connect to the flick and muscle his way through before firing past Westwood.
But they had keeper Willy Gueret to thank for a good save at the death when Glenn Murray attempted a spectacular overhead kick.

The LDV is a nothing cup mate.

Leave it out Nottingham Boy, cant remember the last time Forest won anything and I am sure you'd be happy if they won a 'nothing cup'. Besides, A nothing cup to who?? 42,028 at the stadium would disagree.

Footballer's obscene flag inquiry

Police are investigating after a flag with an obscene insult was displayed on the pitch immediately after Swansea's Football League Trophy win on Sunday.
The insult, aimed at Cardiff City, was daubed on a Welsh flag held by Swansea players after the club's 2-1 win in the Millennium Stadium against Carlisle.
South Wales Police said the incident was logged in the match report and has been reported to the Football League.
Photographers captured Swansea player Lee Trundle holding the flag aloft.
He was also photographed donning a t-shirt bearing an insulting cartoon ridiculing Cardiff City. The neighbouring clubs have a history of rivalry.
Millennium Stadium Chief Executive Paul Sergeant said the flag had been confiscated by league officials and was being held by Stadium staff. The flag will be handed to police later on Monday.
Mr Sergeant told BBC Wales it was the first time something like this had happened at the stadium in more than 200 games and said it was "totally uncalled for".
He said: "Let's not forget it was a hugely successful day. Lots of people came and enjoyed themselves and it's a pity that something like this may overshadow what was a wonderful day for everybody."

'Dim view'

The chief executive said he believed one of the stadium stewards tried to stop the flag being displayed, but could not reach the Swansea City players in time.
Police began an inquiry after complaints from members of the public.
Superintendent Bob Evans said: "I am aware of the incident. I certainly take a dim view of what happened.
"The incident was logged in the match report, it has also been reported to the football league and an official police investigation has been launched and further enquiries will be made into this incident throughout the next few days."

Guys.....Football is a mans game!!!! and besides, the history between Swansea and Cardiff goes back years...plus, the train ban between Swansea/Bridgend was a direct snub to Jack fans....didn't stop 30,000 of them turning out though...Jacks are a breed apart, we dont encourage violence but we will speak our mind and let our feelings known.

I thought "we" were an Arsenal fan?

"We" is an lifelong Arsenal fan (Season Ticket Holder) born in Swansea, Uncle played Centre-back for Swansea when they were top of Division One (Back in late 70's/Early 80's) and Both my parents are current season ticket holders for Swansea FC and my sister is a Steward at The Liberty Stadium...What can I say, my heart beats for the both....But my soul is gunner.

They fined us £15'000 when our mascot stepped on the pitch after we scored a goal, I'm, talking about just across touchline not middle of pitch. Cardiff riot against leeds, bottles of pee, hoarding thrown at leeds fans, and they get fined £20'000 after the Welsh FA told the english FA to mind their own business even though it was an FA cup game.

Just another example of why we hate Cardiff....."One man went to mow, went to mow a meadow"!!!
