I bought an extra 360 controller for the PC. I sometimes play games in my living room and I have a chain of USB hubs there a wireless keyboard and mouse, optical leads, HDMI there etc.

So I thought I'd get an extra controller for the living room, and keep the other for the bedroom where the PC is.

However I don't seem to be able to find a way to swap the two over, Skyrim for example uses controller #1 and unless I can switch that over the wireless controller in the living room doesn't work.

Is there an easy fix?

I'm no help at all but was thinking of getting a 2nd controller so I'm glad to see a thread with dramas about it before I did :D.

I assume it will be an easy fix though, I'm sure microsoft would have a program of some sort to help.

If its wireless don't you press the button next to silver sticker . Not sure how it works with USB tho. Thought they just plug and play

Assuming you have a Official Xbox Wireless dongle too, it should be as simple as syncing a Xbox controller to a Xbox console by pressing and holding the sync button on the dongle at the same time as pressing and holding in the little sync button on the Xbox controller.

Or am I missing the point?

Yeah should be that simple, you can have upto 4 pads on those dongles as well.

I'm connecting them to a PC and they are both working fine.

One is a wired controller and one is wireless. I want to switch them so that I can choose which is controller 1. As it stands no matter what I do the wireless ends up as 2 and the wired as 1.

I think the problem comes in though because he isn't connecting it to an xbox but to a PC.

Yeah we all know that lol as this is the PC section and we are talking about the wireless dongle, which is for the PC. The xbox does not have the dongle as it is built in.

Wakey wakey :p

I think the only way is to unplug the wired and re-sync the wireless controller. Hopefully, for your sake, someone will prove me wrong.

Wired always comes first, unless you unplug it. It's the same on the console as well, wired always take priority. One wired, wireless will be two, two wired, wireless will be 3 and so on.

Just a suggestion:

Disable the wired controller in device manager if you can't be bothered unplugging the wired 1, unplug/replug the batteries and sync?

Nice idea Tommy, sadly it didn't work...

However it seems the signal might be strong enough to work in both rooms - meaning I can dump the wired altogether. Maybe!

Oh well, try:

Disable wired one in DM, unplug batt, reboot, replug batt then sync?...

...Clutching at straws really but who knows?

Keep the wired one as a spare though as iirc, there is the odd game that didn't work with the wireless 360 controller, Dead Rising 2 comes to mind.
