Wondering if this will work...

I have a HP Microserver (N54L), and I came back home a few days ago to the server off and a nasty burning smell and some smoke when I tried to turn it back on - I assume that the power supply has gone.

So, looked for a replacement power supply and found that they are almost the same money as a new server from another company as they are clearing out their stock. Have bought an identical replacement, but wondering if there will be any issue if I just swap the disks between the two and (as long as the disks are okay) it would just carry on as before.

The processor, motherboard etc are identical as it is the same model server. The OS is Windows Home Server, installed on a separate disk. I then have two 2TB disks set up in software RAID (via Windows, NOT via the onboard hardware RAID via the motherboard) as RAID 1.

Anyone think I will have any issues? Thought I better check before I start.

Thanks

Should be fine. Just make sure the RAID controller settings are the same and anything in the iLO or BIOS is more or less the same.

I've done the same thing with various servers over the years.
