Swapping 360 HD from RROD to a new arcade console

A couple of quick questions :

A friends Xbox 360 died and was wondering if he bought a new arcade console (without the hard drive) could he simply put the HD from his old console on the new one.

If so would it keep all the stuff presently on the harddrive ?

Are there any disadvantages in doing this ??

It'll work just fine. Thats why they're so easy to take in and out.

Yes. All your saves and profiles will be copied.

However, any DLC that he has purchased will only work if that account is signed into Xbox Live.

This is because content is licensed to a console when it is first downloaded. You can migrate licences once per year using the tool here though.
