Hi guys

I've removed a cpu from another machine, however after placing it in my another system seam it's having bad heat issues, I haven't booted it in to windows yet, just by looking at the heat data in the BIOS. climbing from 60 to 80C in just 60 seconds...I shut it down at that point as something clearly is not right.

the mobo temps are 25C as I have a few larger fans in there, so that seams fine.

I have a coolermaster fan on the CPU, although a PITA to fit seams to be seated ok.
I have not used any paste and the CPU is about 18 months old. I will purchase some tomorrow, do you think it is down to this?

Thanks :)

Im not sure if you just worded that badly but have you just got a coolermaster fan blowing onto the CPU without a heatsink?

Sorry, my mistake, it has a silver heat sink prior to the fan.

I can show pictures if required. Thanks!

Nah thats ok.

Well I would put it down to several things.

No thermal paste on CPU
HSF not seated correctly on the CPU maybe
or it could be that the BIOS is having problems with that CPU and it just gives incorrect temps.

I wouldnt try it again though with no thermalpaste. Though if you wanted to and run a windows temp monitor to see what that gave you go ahead. Might give a more accurate reading. :)

Thanks, I'll get some paste tomorrow and try again and re-seat.

Is there something to clean the old paste off it?

Thanks again, Thomas
