I've been thinking of replacing my 160gb hitachi drive (I think it's hitachi, maybe toshiba....) with a 500GB samsung drive which my dad has and is quieter, am I able to reinstall windows vista 64 bit premium with no trouble as the rest of the system is the same apart from the hardrive or would I have to buy a new license?

Upgrading a hard drive does not invalidate your license. You will be able to reinstall/reactivate.

It's the motherboard that counts on OEM - replacing that will mean a new license.

Ok that sounds good then, just got to check if the older version (not F1) samsung 500gb drives are good/quiet.

no need to reinstall un less you realy want to.

just use somthing like acronis true image to mirror the original disk to the new disk and jobs done.

That way your will not loose any downtime rebuilding your install the way you like it.

And that would work perfectly fine? I think I'll do that then, though I do need to find another SATA cable if I where to do that.
edit, just googled acronis true image, will the free trial work fine for what I want, or is there any other free software that could do it?

I think the free one will do it and yes there are many free ones just search for drive imaging software and they will come up.

will work perfectly without a doubt! :)

Vista will ghost fine but you will most likely have to reactivate when its back up and running.
