Hi all, I have a lenovo ideapad laptop that has stopped working, however I want to get my photos etc off it. I am able to remove what looks like the memory from it (it says 1tb on it so presume its the memory!). If I buy the same laptopn second hand can I just put my old memory in and access my files?

Thanks!

You need to pull the hard drive - the storage - not the RAM. Given it says 1 Tb, that's the HDD you've pulled which is correct. You don't need to buy a new laptop, just an adapter so you can read it on your desktop PC.

Theoretically you should just need something like this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £20.47 (includes shipping: £3.48)

but older HDDs can have different interfaces. Can you post a photo so we can be sure? Upload the photo to a hosting site (e.g. imgur.com) and post the link here. Make sure the photo includes the end to which a cable attaches. If you can't post a photo, the HDD will have a make and model on it so post that.

If its 1 TB its going to be SATA (99.9% of the time) but getting the data back assumes its not the HDD that's failed...

if the laptop its dead that its likely not the HDD, if it shows some Lenovo info then gets stuck its more likely to be the HDD (though not 100%)
