Nope, should be simple.

Windows might want you to reactivate it afterwards though.

And I update to the Nforce 4 32x drivers after you've done the swap :)

i did this with my computer too, and its been a hastle ever since unfortunately, me CD drive doesn't seem to work at all even though its spinning disk and what not, half the LEDs on my case are off, system is being slow as well, i got no idea whats wrong with it, this is swapping MSI K8N platinum with DFI lanparty SLI-DR expert, anyone got any ideas, i can't run the disk that came with DFI board either cause it won't let me

Did you reformat afterwards?

how on earth do you even format your hard disk, not to sound stupid, i haven't formatted one, like ever, and what happens if my CD drive still doesn't work, how do i re-install windows then?

Try booting from your Windows CD, that'll see if the drive is working outside windows.

If you get into the windows setup, that gives you the option to delete the exisiting partition and then format the empty space, then you do a fresh install.

If you can't boot from CD check all you CD drive cables.

i did check all connections, they all seem to be sturdy and in the right place, IDE master cable going to DVD-DW/CD-RW which is my primary drive, it spinning disks and stuff, just not reading anything

Did you try booting from the Windows CD?

If you did and it worked, it shows that you have a software problem. If it doesn't work (and it's set to boot from CD in the BIOS) then you have a hardware problem.

To the OP:

Read this link for a full how-to on swapping your motherboard without re-installing Windows. It's pretty easy. Now I know the chipsets on the boards you are swapping are very similar, so it might have worked, but I recommend following this guide as it removes a whole lot of potential problems.

its all good guys, the problem is all fixed, it turned it out was hardware issue, one of pins on my optical drive was forced into the socket, only half of it was visible, pulled it back to normal position using needle nosed plyers, all is good, SLI drivers installed and system flying along happily, thanks anyways
