hello having difficulties swapping out me nvidia 450 for the 470 on a GA-X58A-UD3R .first off me 450 has only plug connector the 470 has 2 ,which is confusing as i have not got a manual ,so not sure which one to use ,is this graphics card compatible with me board ,also what is best way of removing replacing drivers ,also do i have to reset the cmos switch on board before install?any help info appreciated

ok next problem what graphics card can i upgrade too /i assume it is my power supply configuration that is the issue ,what card can i upgrade to for better performance using a corsair tx 650w atx sli with my existing motherboard

so i have one 6pin connector and a 2 pin connector whats the 2pin connector used for?comming from my power supply do these get used in conjunction together?

each pci-e cable will have 6 pins with an additional 2. if you join the 2 to the 6 it functions as a full 8 pin pci-e power cable.

if the 470 needs 2 6 pins (I don't know) then you leave the extra 2 on each cable disconnected.

ok i get it ive got to look for another 6 pin pci-e if i have one ?if not then need a single 6pin gpu which one is good?

The 470 gtx only requires 2x 6 pin pcie connectors for power, you simply leave the extra 2 pins unconnected.

Pic to give you an idea.

Note the two extra pins sticking out the end of the connectors plugged into the top card.

you definitely have another 6+2 pin, the old and new versions of the tx650 are non-modular so it's attached to the PSU and it's in your case somewhere.

If it was a pre-build it might be cable-tied out of the way in the drive bays/behind the mobo tray etc.

Would my 6 pin pcie connector damage the card the chap whom sold me the card says it only needs one connector and that I should use the y harness connector that comes with it ,is there any difference in these 6 pin connectors ,are they wired the same ..?

help needed using molex to pcie connector does this need to be run in a series or parallel
configuration ie both molex from the one cable or two different cables ?dont want to ruin the graphics card if i havent all ready?

Paul
You should use both pcie power connectors.
Your PSU has two, use them.

The molex adapter is for use when a power supply doesn't have enough 6/8 pin pcie power connectors.

If you really have to use the molex adaptor, then try if possible to use two different cables.
There is only one yellow 12v wire in each molex cable so using two diferent cables gives you two 12v feeds from the PSU which can carry more current safely.

Using the molex is a last resort and is not recommended..

ok brilliant the molex thing can fo ,done it bingo working thankyou , is the card worth 35 quid and is it much better than me 450 what do you reckon the 450 will fetch on ebay must say the 470 does seem warmer when running

it's much better than the 450

we couldn't say how much the 450 will fetch as it's against the rules, suffice it to say 'not a lot'. tbh I'd keep it as backup.

Yes it will be warmer. The 400 series is known to be hot. The 480 for example has cooking, as well as gaming, applications.
