Hi everyone,

I have an Xbox 360 and unfortunately the DVD drive stopped working and will no longer read any disc. My brother had an Xbox as well he didn't use often and it red ringed. I've tried directly swapping the drives over so I can get my Xbox working again but it doesn't work, shows up an error message from what I can remember.

Question is, anyone swapped Xbox DVD drives before and if so how did you go about it?

You can't talk about it here.

It's a shame as I've done it before for the same reason as you, but the method used to swap drives is the same as the one which enables piracy.

if its the same drive ie a hitachi/samsung/liteon etc with the same serial (now your gonna need a bit of luck) then just change the logic boards over.

If not as Kreeee said can't talk about it here.

Good point. If they are identical drives you can just swap the mechanical parts and keep the hopefully fully functioning circuitry.

You could also try swapping just the laser or increase the POT power. Adjusting the POT would be my first port of call if the disc still spins up.

Try replacing the laser. Cost me £10 when I did it and Xbox was good as new. No need to swap whole drive.
