Got a Toshiba A110-233 from a mate who dropped it and broke the screen. HDD (40Gb 5400RPM) was also dead. Looked about and got some deals, total cost : 220, this is for LCD, 7200rpm 80Gb Seagate HDD, 2Gb more RAM and T2500 Dual core cpu (i took out the Core Solo 1.86). Not the fastest lappie around but for what i spent i'm chuffed :D

Final spec:
1.86Ghz single core 533 Bus cpu to 2Ghz 667 Bus T2500 Dual Core
512Mb Memory to 2.5Gb memory
40Gb 5400Rpm to 80Gb 7200rpm
Replaced screen

It'll handle the cpu as its only 4w or so more max, so power draw and thermal limits should'nt be affected :)

I assume most laptops have 2 DIMMs so how did they get it to 2.5Gb? You sure they didn't replace the original 512Mb with 2x 1Gb sticks?

:D
Whos 'they'? I did the entire thing myself, years of dealing with laptops at work has made me quite effecient and i can dismantle pretty much any and rebuild it in under an hour :) Some are easy, like just a panel at the bottom to upgrade cpu/memory etc.. or a caddy for the optical etc.. while some aren't. For instance the screen was a cakewalk to put on this one but the cpu involved dismantling the entire laptop chassis as it was under the motherboard inside so the board itself had to come out. Anyhow, it originally had 512mb, i put a 2gb DDR2 SODIMM to make 2.5.
