Just wondering if anyone plays SWG post-NGE or started playing the game when it was released? I know lots of pre-NGE players hate it but I'm not really interested in another debate about SOE screwing you, just post-NGE players. :)

How popular are the European servers for the game and can you level your character mostly in space mission rather than on planets? The main interest I have in this game is obviously space combat as I was a bit of a X-Wing/TIE Fighter series fan.

How much is the game improving with publishes? Noticeable?

The pilot skills part of the game are separate from the ground side, so any missions in space only advance you as a pilot. You still need to do the skill, xp etc for the ground profession you want.

I left shortly after the NGE hit but when i did that was the set up left in the NGE for pilot and ground professions.

The euopean servers are practically empty, and as a fan of the old tie fighter/xwing games myself then you should know you will definitely be disappointed!

It's absolutely awful now, don't touch it at all. Seriously I went to the most popular planets and did a search in *** console for online players on the planet...

NONE. I really don't understand how an international MMO can be so poorly populated, but then again I suppose it is dire now.

Oh well :( :(

Anyone that liked SWG before, do a google for SWGemu.

Ive just returned with quite a few of my old guildies.

Servers aint that empty, I live in a thriving city on Tat, and places like theed and Eisley get busy in the evenings.

The community does seem quite mature and theres a lot of jedi's but the game does seem to be improving with the expertise system and the legacy quest line.

I play on eu-chimera

infinity is an absolute mess, and yes you can lvl your ground in space, but it takes a wee while :p

currently on infinity most people resort to flaming each other, and then theres all those people who faction hop for the easy ride thanks to restuss and the newish gcw bases

there are some pockets of mature players left, but these are dwindling

but i only speak from 1 servers perspective and it does seem infinity is where most kiddies come which is depressing

As I said, I wasn't interested in pre-NGE as I never liked it despite the various "combat upgrades" that just seemed to result in more whining from the "mature" community that was in the game then.

I'm only interested in the opinions of those who are currently playing the game as to why they do, as I'm thinking of giving it a go. :)

Thanks MBK, infinity seems to be a server to avoid.

A lot of the people who you dont want advice from have, like myself are experienced players that have gone back and re-tried it, as thats how much we loved the game.

The space combat is really terrible, its a shame that a game as old as Xwing is better than this. Controls and graphics are absolutely appauling!

SWG used to be about creating and individual character and about the community. Now you are stuck with the crappy pre-defined skill trees and lack of people. I remember groups of people having to take down a Rancor, i was doing it as a jedi by the time i had reached just lvl 14!!

Even without knowing what it used to be like, my brother tried it and said it was a very poor game!

More like what I'm after.

The point I was trying to make in the first post was that as I didn't like pre-NGE anyway I wasn't too interested in differences between version gameplay, like the differences between individual characters and pre-defined skill trees (as I might actually like that). :)

Suprising cause Infinity used to be the best server Pre-CU, Mind you it was always the most quiet, and when i logged on to my "Free taste" not one person out of the 100 ish on my freinds list was online.

Yep NGE sure did slap SWG in the face and all its fans. ASll you can do is pray for SWG2 developed by someone other than Sony.

I still play and in a great guild, lots of pvp most weekends killing imps :P

Dont do much space stuff but there is lots to do out there although as u get higher up a group is a must and thats where your gunna find it hard as i dont know a lot of peeps that do much space (well on my server anyways)

And IMO the game is slowly getting better with every patch, the population is no where near anything what it used to and i would be suprised if it ever did. Log in for a month and try it whats a tenner these days anyway

Thanks Elrein and others who have replied. Just checked the SWG site and there's a "new version" of the trial coming out in the next few days when I try to download it so I'll see what it's like when they release the new version. :)

Just formed a new guild on EU-Chimera and trying to get a city going, were mostly vet players.

If you land on that server give us a nudge,

Ill be Thrash or Ryssa on there.

It is slowly improving I have to agree the new expertise system is a breakaway from the cookie cutter toons we had, most classes are getting some dev love now.

Just wish they would sort out ghost towns next.
