Switch and Router help

Hi lads, i have a Netgear DG834N which is a great router but when moving video files or larger between 2 computers it takes a good few minutes to do it because its 100Base, so basically because these two computers are in my room, im wondering if its possible to connect a gigbit switch to these two and connect the switch to the router for example

Yep that'll work fine for PC1 and PC2 having gigabit between each other and 100Mb to the router.

Thanks paradigm, one last thing; how will the IP addresses work when the switch is inserted, will the router just treat PC1 nd PC2 as individual IP addresses so i can still have static IPs on each computer?

As far as the router is concerned it will be exactly the same as if the switch weren't present.

So nothing needs to change regarding your IP addressing.
