Switch card help!

I recently bought a Phenom II system with an Asus M4A89GTD Pro which has some sort of weird switch card thing which it told me to put in the first PCI-E slot and then my graphics card in the second one which I've done. However I'm now in the market for a sound card and as PCI-E sound cards are a bit of a joke, I now have a problem! Because my card is dual slot and the board only has 2 PCI slots, one of which is next to the second PCI-E slot, it blocks the first one off and only leaves me with one free PCI slot which is used by my USB/Firewire card.

I was just wondering if I could reverse it and have the switch card in the second slot and my graphics card in the normal place (first slot)? Would it still run at 16x? Here's an image of what I mean.

Basically, can they be switched? I don't mind having the PCI-E X1 blocked. I'll probably never use it..

Thanks

The more the merrier :p There's actually only 8 USB ports on the back, and they're all filled along with the 2 extra ports on the USB card. The front ports are reserved for plugging in cameras/phones/whatever and I'd hate to have stuff permanently coming off them anyways. I've found a decent PCI-E card, but I'd much rather have a PCI sound card as if I decide to go crossfire in the future, the PCI-E X1 will be blocked off too. There's only 2 ports on the motherboard that will not be blocked regardless, and they're a PCI slot and a PCI-E X4 (I've never seen a card which uses this interface before..) and I won't mind dumping my USB card in the future if I go Crossfire..

Anyway, can I switch the arrangement around? Does anyone know? :p
