Switched from Firefox to Chrome .... and back again.

 What have I done!!

I switched from Firefox to Chrome........

I find Firefox uses a lot of memory and can get quite cpu intensive at times... :(

Wanted a nimble browser so trying out Chrome.

Sad times... :(

The only thing I dont like about Chrome is that there is no delete history option on exit. For those times when I want to do some 'surfing'... :p

Tell me as I'm new to chrome, I don't need to install flash plug-ins? It gets installed automatically?

How do you know when the browser has been updated?

OP: Ctrl+Shift+N will be your best friend it seems ;)

Im running it in 24hr incognito mode... ;)

Does seem a little bit more nimble and light on its feet than Firefox.

But its going to be a painful separation. I'm even thinking, that even if Chrome is better, I'l eventually back to the Fox...

I prefer the Firefox UI, but maybe because, I'v been using it since version 1.0...

I use both, it's the only way.

Use Xmarks and Lastpass to sync your bookmarks and passwords seamlessly.

Meh.. I switched back. :p

Guess I just had to get it out of my system. All this talk about Chrome this and Chrome that... its very very clever marketing from Google.

Very Clever! :o

I feel comfortable with the fox, I know my way around it, it is the norm for me, Chrome felt abnormal, and I really don't like the UI.

<whispers>Opera... Opera.... </whispers>

I've been a FF user for many years, I tried Chrome for 2-3 weeks as FF was causing me issues, however I just can't get myself to like it. I think I may try Opera again though, last time I used that was maybe 6-7 years ago now :p

I was a Firefox user for many years & since switching to Chrome I've had no reason to go back, everything just works which is fine with me.

If you want to see updates for chrome and add ons, install chrome update notifier (or something like that anyway :p), pops up in bottom right corner telling you when any of that stuff updated with a link to the changelog.

As for memory usage, complete opposite for me! :p

Firefox, I have 8 addons installed with 5 user styles.

Chome, I have 7 addons installed with 2 user styles.

And plus firefox has been opened for hours now where as chrome I just launched there to do the comparison, generally the browsers use a bit more RAM after a certain period of time I find.

Not too bothered though either way as I don't run out of RAM unless I have loads of things running in the background with a game running! :p

Opera is just too much of a self-consciously 'different' browser for me. There are still too many sites which don't quite render properly, and the general feel of the UI is somehow different from a lot of Windows applications. It feels a lot more 'alternative' than the other browsers!

Memory usage is an interesting one. If you just open the same pages in Firefox and Chrome, then Chrome will probably use more memory because it opens each site in its own process. However, after a long browsing session, it'll be a different story. Chrome gives memory back when you close a tab, where Firefox seems to have big problems with hanging onto memory. Once of the reasons I left Firefox was because memory usage just grows exponentially until it gets to the point where the browser starts to lag and you have to restart it. No such issues with Chrome!

I have Chrome installed since I hate Internet Explorer! I have used Firefox since v2 and won't change any time soon.

That is true Mattus! Regarding chrome and each tab having its own process etc.

However I personally have never had that problem with firefox taking more memory as time goes on, open it up and it uses about 250MB, use it for a bit then that increases to around 350-450MB, however I am now using waterfox 64 bit and with the high res screeenshot thread, memory usage can go up to 1GB! but once I close that tab it is back to around the 400MB mark. No matter how long fire/water fox runs for, it will always be around that usage for me.

cheers! I like chrome very much. :D
delete history: ctrl+shift+delete for Windows PC
cmd+shift+delete for Mac - Empty the Trash (with warning)

Firefox and Chrome are much the same in my book, I use both of them on a daily basis.

Opera seems too odd for me to get to grips with it. However on my phone, I only use Opera Mini, go figure :D

Meh, Firefox kept crashing and becoming unresponsive on me, so I made the switch over to Chrome about 6 months ago. Its more or less the same thing.

As long as it lets me at the internets, I'm happy.
